In 2008, I had a memorable experience when I partied at the now defunct XES Bar with hostess Peppermint. The DJ announced that he would be playing her favorite song and proceeded to blast "All I Want for Christmas Is You" on a sweltering June day. The look of pure joy on Peppermint's face, though, was enough for me to forget how hot and sweaty I was.
Fans of Ru Paul's Drag Race have discovered Peppermint thanks to her appearance as a finalist on season 9. But her success on televisionis just the latest chapter in this New Yorker's story. The vivacious queen's life is being documented in her friend Oriel Pe'er's film Project Peppermint, currently 39% of the way towards its funding goal of $38,000 on Indiegogo. The trailer promises a crisply photographed, engaging portrait of Peppermint's experiences, including her transition, and her time on Drag Race, with appearances by famous friends like Laverne Cox and Transparent's Trace Lysette.
Those who donate during the next nine days of the campaign (as of June 29) can earn perks ranging from a "thanks" in the credits ($10) to a poster signed by Peppermint herself ($50) to a social media shout out ($200). Check out the campaign for yourself!
