Geeks OUT and About: Midtown East

For the next edition in our Geeks OUT and About series we're taking a tour of Midtown East.

The adventure begins at Midtown Comics 42nd Street location and will go southbound from there. Midtown Comics is a chain in New York City that has multiple locations, including one by Grand Central, Times Square, and a downtown one in the Financial District. Each location has a great selection of new and older comics, toys, collectibles, t-shirts and exclusives.

Extra geek credit: Visit where the fictional Baxter Building would be at 42nd Street and Madison Avenue.

Take a 456 train or walk down to the 33 and Park Stop.

Extra geek credit: The Empire State Building, has had numerous pop culture appearances and was home to the Goblin Queen during the X-Men Inferno crossover.

After seeing the Empire State Building you may ask yourself, "what would King Kong visit next?" My best guess is he would go to JHU Comics. JHU is a cool shop that features comics, toys, and comic book art. It was also blessed with a visit from the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Doctor Strange, when Benedict Cumberbatch came in to buy books while filming.

Right nearby JHU Comics is another go-to geeky store, especially if you’re an RPG gaymer. The Compleat Strategistt is tucked away on the border of Murray Hill and features and cavernous cornucopia of card games, strategy guides, miniatures, and everything else you need for role playing adventures. Grap a party and go rack up some experience points and credit card damage at The Compleat Strategist.

After all that shopping you may want to relax and grab a drink, so take the 456 down to the 23rd Street stop, or a short walk to the border of Chelsea and NoMad (North of Madison Square Park) to get a rack up some shots and high scores at Barcade. Barcade takes everything you love about going out, drinking and meeting people, and everything you love about staying home, video games, and combines them! Where else can you play Tapper and actually have a bartender slide a beer down to you? It's a pretty surreal and fun spot. Worth a visit for the video game cabinet art alone.
