"I'm just a kid from Brooklyn," Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) opines in Captain America: The First Avenger. And how far that kid has come: Cap is joining the ranks of Salem's Samantha (Bewitched) and Detroit's Robocop, other fantasy and sci-fi icons who received tributes in their canonical hometowns. Marvel comics announced this week that a 13-foot bronze version of the hero will debut at San Diego Comic Con later this month prior to a Prospect Park dedication ceremony on August 10. The final location is TBD but the statue will tour "several key locations" before settling into its permanent home, which will most likely also be in Brooklyn.
Needless to say this is cool news for comics fans; hopefully, the "key locations" will stretch from coast to coast so that geeks across the US can pay their respects. The dedication ceremony is particularly exciting. Though the guests have yet to be revealed, I wouldn't be surprised if Stan Lee, Evans, and/or Sebastian Stan (Cap's beloved Bucky in the movies) made appearances. Now all we need is a Spidey statue in Queens!
