WHAM! BAM! Thank You, Ma'am - Elsa Bloodstone

Welcome to Wham! Bam! Thank You, Ma'am!, Geeks OUT's monthly recap that focuses on the trials and tribulations of a different Marvel Universe SFC (Strong Female Character) every thirty days. August's focus finds itself squarely aimed at the gun-toting, foul-mouthed, British badass with a head of hair more glamourous than Queen Medusa's... Elsa Bloodstone.

First appearing in 2001's Bloodstone mini-series, Elsa descends from the immortal monster hunter, Ulysses Bloodstone and she has successfully lived up to her family's legacy. Right off the bat, she had brushes with Dracula, N'Kantu (the Living Mummy), and the Nosferatu. Following her exploits with H.A.T.E.'s Nextwave squad, Elsa joined the staff of the Braddock Academy (whose student roster included her brother, Cullen). Most recently she had joined Valkyrie and Misty Knight's team of Fearless Defenders to take on Caroline Le Fay and her Doom Maidens. A version of Elsa even made it to Doctor Doom's Battleworld as one of the Shield's defenders against the zombies of the Deadlands.

Lines are finally being drawn between Captain Marvel and her teammates in A-Force #8. The ramifications of the superhuman civil war and the predictions of the Inhuman, Ulysses, finally reach a boiling point when the precog's latest vision points to Nico Minoru murdering a woman named Alice. Refusing to be apprehended for a crime she didn't commit, Nico uses the Staff of One to teleport herself to a Runaways safe house in Colorado. Instead of enjoying the town's luxurious hot springs, Nico finds herself in the middle of a bug infestation of offensive proportions. Luckily, Elsa Bloodstone is already on the case.

In true leadership fashion, Elsa immediately deputizes Nico as her "sidekick" and manages to get a group of townsfolk to a pre-established shelter where other survivors have already taken shelter. In the midst of NOT blowing the people-turned-bugs into piles of slush, Elsa even finds time to brag about her footwear and bond with Nico over missing limbs.

SFC Moment of the Month: The women of A-Force are not alone in feeling the effects of the civil war. Patsy Walker has had to deal with the potential loss of her friend, Jennifer Walters (a.k.a. She-Hulk) and the financial burden of keeping a business afloat without the support of her bff. However, not all is lost as former mutant and current teenage vampire mommy, Jubilation Lee, has taken up the slack and become Patsy's new assistant.

Patsy Walker a.k.a. Hellcat #9 finds the titular character and her posse being ambushed by Patsy's ex-husbands during gals-night-out at Karaoke. Jubilee wastes no time in defending her new circle of friends and mists right into the foray. Suddenly, it's just like old-times and we are reminded why Jubilee is the best at what she does.
