After months of speculation, beginning even before Coven wrapped up, Douglas Petrie (AHS writer and co-executive producer) all but confirmed what many bloggers and fans alike have put forth as a popular theory for season four's setting of American Horror Story. In a recent Nerdist podcast, Petrie was asked if Ryan Murphy's supernatural/horror drama would focus on a "carnival"-type setting for the upcoming season. His response was, "Very roughly, that's the idea."
In a previous interview, Ryan Murphy stated that season four would take place in two different time periods, one being the 1950s. This lead to the onslaught of internet theories and fan-made posters for potential themes: Circus, Freakshow, and the Nuremberg Trials (despite being held from 1945-1946). Murphy has also confirmed that both Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson are onboard for the new season.
What are your thoughts on the season four theme reveal?
Side note: If you're looking for something to get you in the "carnival" mood, my recommendations would be the 1932 classic horror film, Freaks, along with the short-lived HBO series, Carnivale.
