New York-based Geeks OUT is thrilled to make its first appearance at the 2014 Boston Comic Con, August 8-10, continuing its mission to bring fan-based queer engagement and awesome t-shirts to major geek events around the country. After attending C2E2, Gaymer X, and SDCC this year, the four-year-old group will promote, rally, and empower the queer geek community in Boston ahead of this fall’s New York Comic Con.
In addition to hosting a booth on the convention floor, Geeks OUT founder and President Joey Stern will be joining the Queer Comics Panel on Saturday, August 9 at 1 pm. Focusing on themes of empowerment and otherness, panelists including Tana Ford (Duck!, Duck! Second Chances, Cafe Racer, Marvel’s New Warriors), Amber Love (Subculture, Amber Unmasked, Vodka O’Clock podcast), Jennie Wood (Flutter, Fubar) will discuss their personal work, today’s more vibrant LGBTQ comics community, and the future of the medium. Brigid Alverson of Robot 6 will moderate.
Now in its second year at the Seaport World Trade Center, the Boston Comic Con runs August 8-10. The fall east coast convention season kicks off just two weeks after San Diego Comic Con in July and draws thousands of fans, collectors, and cosplayers from across New England and the Northeast. Special guests for the 2014 Boston Comic Con include John Barrowman (Torchwood, Arrow), Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Aquaman in DC’s upcoming Justice League film), and Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings).
