Gun-Free Cosplay Ideas

As some of you are already aware, Geeks OUT recently announced a new rule for cosplay at FlameCon 2 that has been creating some buzz around the internet. The policy prohibits any kind of gun or simulacrum of a firearm, no matter how fake it looks.

We decided that as a show of solidarity for our siblings in Orlando — and as a way to create a space that is both physically and emotionally safe — these particular cosplay accessories should be left at home or checked at the door.

But what if you were planning on going as Black Widow, Vash the Stampede from Trigun, Dante from Devil May Cry, Deadshot, or your favorite character from The Walking Dead? What if you feel your costume will be incomplete without a simulacrum of a firearm?

Option 1: Take a lesson from Deadpool and substitute the gun for something more whimsical.

Option 2: Pick a a character that doesn't use guns. A hero doesn’t need a firearm to be a badass. (Daredevil jumps immediately to mind.) Here are some alternatives for our favorite cosplayers.

If you are a comic book fan, how about any of these popular characters (who are all hot ticket items due to current media buzz)?

Left to Right: Batman, Storm, Flash, Captain Marvel, Luke Cage, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, Supergirl, Spider-Man

Or perhaps TV and movies are more your thing? What about these options from some of our most beloved fandoms?

From Left to Right: Galadriel from Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Daenarys Targaryen from Game of Thrones, Dr. Who, Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Oprah, Finn from Adventure Time, Ash Ketchum from Pokemon, Naruto Uzumaki, Katara Avatar: The Last Airbender, BB-8 from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Buffy Summers, Jessica Jones

Or, if you want to go for gold, how about these Bonus Queer Points characters (and couples)?

From Left to Right: Pam Swynford de Beaufort and Tara Thornton from True Blood, Northstar, Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen from Adventure Time, Willow Rosenberg and Tara Maclay from Buffy, Midnighter and Apollo, The Icemen, Poison Ivy and Harley, Batwoman, Green Lantern, Jack Harkness and Ianto Jones from Torchwood, Sailor Uranus an Sailor Neptune from Sailor Moon, Wiccan and Hulkling, Madame Vastra and Jenny Flint from Doctor Who

With your help, we can have a fun and safe Flame Con.
