Black Comic Book Festival

Any bookworm worth his weight in gold leaf (book puns!) should be familiar with the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture by now. This Harlem branch of the NYPL may be a hike for most in the NYC area but considering the goods inside (last year's blockbuster Emancipation Proclamation exhibit comes to mind), a few extra minutes on the 2 train is worth it.

Like now! It seems like delighting the history nerd is no longer enough for the Schomburg. They've moved onto programming for GOCs (geeks of color), et al. On Saturday, January 12th from 10am-4pm the Schomburg will be hosting the Black Comic Book Festival. Though aimed at 13-18 year olds, the event is open to all and will feature a screening of the documentary "White Scripts and Black Supermen: Black Masculinities in Comic Books", a look at the problematic history of heroes of color (you remember Power Man, right?).
