If you've been to one of the conventions where we at Geeks OUT have had a presence, you may have seen and bought books from our friends at Northwest Press as well. Its editor, Zan Christensen, is a longtime LGBT activist who founded the company in 2010 with the goal of promoting queer comics - helping new and established authors reach wider audiences, and increasing the visibility of queer comics as a whole. They publish books from all areas of the queer spectrum - gay, lesbian, bi, trans - for both youth and adult audiences, and have won a variety of awards.
Now, they're running a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the latest installments of two of their series:
Dash, by Dave Ebersole and Delia Gable, follows a gay PI in 1940s Los Angeles as he gets embroiled in a murder case and supernatural intrigue.
Rick Worley's A Waste of Time centers on Rick, a gay sex-obsessed cartoon rabbit (and cartoonist!) and his dysfunctional friends.
Northwest Press is seeking $5000 over the next month to fund these publications. Digital copies of both books are available for as little as $4; $10 or $12 will get you a complete collection of A Waste of Time or Dash (respectively); higher tiers are available that include goodies like T-shirts, artist sketches, and other books from Northwest Press.
Have a look, and help support queer comics today!
