Queer Geek News Roundup: March 12, 2017

  • In further developments regarding Beauty and the Beast's gay-LeFou controversy, Russia's Ministry of Culture has declined to banned the film, but has given it a rating normally associated with adults-only films. However, further details reveal that the film's "gay moment" is extremely tame.

  • Issues with the Nintendo Switch's controllers, which the company has named Joy-Cons, are apparently exacerbated by shoving them in bodily orifices. I don't recommend trying this at home.

  • Charlize Theron is a badass Cold War-era British spy (and Strong Female Character) in the trailer for the graphic novel adaptation Atomic Blonde, from the co-director of John Wick (and director of the upcoming Deadpool sequel). She also gets in some same-sex seduction, though whether there's more to that angle than hetero titillation is debatable.

  • Cate Blanchett looks amazing as the villain Hela in the first photos from Thor: Ragnarok, but I'm all about Jeff Goldblum's debut in the MCU as the manipulative cosmic elder, the Grandmaster.

  • We don't have any actual footage or plot details for the seventh (and penultimate) season of Game of Thrones, but HBO has released a teaser video announcing a July 16th premiere.
