Queer Geek News Roundup: February 11, 2018

  • Marvel Studios dropped a Super Bowl ad for Avengers: Infinity War, and fans are abuzz with speculation that we may be glimpsing Captain Marvel (behind Captain America in the above shot).

  • The return of HBO's Sex & Violence Robot Hour, AKA Westworld, finally has a date (April 22) and a new trailer reminding me how much I've missed those anachronistic player piano covers (here, it's Kanye's "Runaway").

  • Speaking of much-anticipated second seasons, FX's very weird Marvel series Legion will return on April 3, now Bryan Singer-free!

  • Speaking again of second seasons, a new trailer for the return of Jessica Jones promises a season that will delve heavily into the title character's past and secret origin.

  • Filming has started on Shazam!, due to be the first DC film of 2019, and Warner Bros. has released an official synopsis for its film about a 14-year-old foster kid who transforms into the titular superhero, thanks to a wizard. I'm a big fan of the character (check out Jeff Smith's Shazam!: The Monster Society of Evil, and hope this is the movie he deserves... even if it's only set, and not actually filming, in my beloved Philly thanks to those Canadian tax breaks.

  • Last but not least, a new trailer for the Deadpool sequel spotlights Josh Brolin's time-traveling anti-hero Cable, while still offering up abundant Ryan Reynolds quipping (including a dig at Henry Cavill's uncanny-valley digital mustache removal in Justice League).
