Queer Geek News Roundup: December 18, 2016

  • As Christmas approaches, Brian Moylan offers a tongue-in-cheek analysis of the gay subtext in the classic holiday special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer:

Rudolph is totally, absolutely, 100 percent, Neil-Patrick-Harris-French-kissing-Ricky-Martin gay. Anyone who even knows what Queer Theory is can tell you that the subtext of the narrative seems to be a pre-Stonewall contemplation of the power of coming out and embracing sexual minorities into society at large.

  • Suicide Squad director David Ayer and star Margot Robbie will reteam for a film version of Gotham City Sirens, the 2009-11 comic that joined Harley Quinn, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy. Robbie was a good Harley in the movie, but let's hope the story is less of a mess this time out.

  • The gay owners of Whatever..., a comic shop in San Francisco's Castro district, have launched a GoFundMe campaign to keep the store's doors open.

As always, watch this space for more.
