Queer Geek News Roundup: April 22, 2018

  • When will we learn that genetic experimentation and dinosaur DNA are a mixture that can only end in disaster? Probably nowhere, if the latest trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is anything to go by.

  • The Merc with a Mouth takes shots at DC and holds auditions for X-Force in the final trailer for Deadpool 2. Not holding my breath for Shatterstar’s bisexuality to make it onscreen, but we’ve got a surprise MVP in Peter (he just wanted to be there!) Oh, and Peter has his own Twitter account.

  • Warner Bros. has chosen Cathy Yan to direct Birds of Prey, a film that will team up Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn with female crimefighters (possibly including Batgirl). Yan recently made Dead Pigs, a China-set dark comedy that won rave reviews at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

  • The streaming services continue to be aggressive in their pursuit of geek fare (and geekdom): Amazon is developing series based on Jonathan Hickman’s comics East of West and Transhuman, as well as cyberpunk pioneer William Gibson’s time-travel novel The Peripheral, the last with the notable involvement of the producers of Westworld. Meanwhile, Netflix has ordered series based on vampire comic V-Wars and The Order, about a college student “thrust into a world of magic, monsters and intrigue” (also, werewolves).
